The entertaining game of football has been around for ages and has kept millions of people on the look out for the next great sensation. At the moment, the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the boys everybody is talking about and rightfully so might I add. They are a joy to watch and can change the game at any point. However, they are a couple of old guards who were just as entertaining, if not more so. Here is a list of some football greats we may not forget any time soon.
1. Zinedine Zidane
Zidane had an illustrious football career from winning the World Cup in 1998 to been named FIFA world player, he has seen it all. If not for anything, many will remember Zidane for the head butt he gave Italian player Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup Final. Zidane played for France on international level and finished his club performances playing for Real Madrid. A dazzling player and was without a doubt great dribbler and playmaker.
2. Luis Figo
The Portugal star and captain makes the list as one who will not be forgotten. Figo was a great midfield sensation and a creative playmaker. His transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid was one of the highest profile football transfers. He was FIFA’s world player of the year in 2001. Luis Figo was not the fastest player around but he was a sensation with his ball control and dribbling. He also had a number of goals worth remembering to his name.
3. Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima
Considered as one of the best strikers of all time by fans and football gurus alike, Ronaldo is without a doubt one of the players not many will ever forget. In 98 international matches Ronaldo has scored 62 goals. He was part of the Brazilian team that won the 1994 and 2002 World Cups. His prowess on the ball earned him his nick name ‘The Phenom” to date he holds the record of the highest goal scorer in World Cup history with 15 goals to his name. A thigh injury sidelined this ecstatic player and later forced him to early retirement.
4. Roberto Baggio
What set him apart from other players, apart from his impeccable presences in midfield was his pony tail. Baggio was one of Italy’s darlings and was ranked as one of the great players of his time. Accolades to his name include the much sort after Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s world player of the year in 1993. Baggio, one of Italy’s top goal scorers of all time, will be etched in football fans minds due to his numerous achievements and lets not forget his ponytail.
To wrap up our list of players many will never forget, I had to give you someone who is a sensational player on the field and an adored personality by many. Gaucho’s (Ronaldhino) football career looked promising ever since he was 8 years old and he has not failed to deliver. In Brazil the number 10 jersey is just not given to anybody, you have to prove yourself worthy of adorning the shirt which Ronaldhino did. With a smile always on his face Ronaldhino just doesn’t play win games, he enjoys playing entertaining football. You can tell from the way he celebrates his goals when he does his signature samba dance. A player not many will forget not by a long shot.
